BIPOLAR EMPIRE, YOUTH MASS, MILK AND ZOMBIE COPS
Rhythm is a Dancer for Cancer Bipolar Empire + Youth Mass, Milk and Zombie Cops Newspaper Interview from the organiser: Charity work has always been something I have wanted to get more involved in and in particular I wanted to do something with the Irish cancer Society. Cancer is one of the major killers in Ireland just think about the statistics, each year in Ireland, approximately 28,000 people in Ireland will develop cancer and 8,400 will die of the disease. It is also estimated that the number of people who will develop cancer will increase to 41,700 by 2020. With these figures facing us it is vital that we do everything in our power to find ways of combating the disease. With this in mind and the fact that the Irish Cancer Society is the largest funder of cancer research in Ireland I decided I would organise a charity night in aid of the charity. Deciding what kind of night I would organise wasn't particularly that difficult, I went with what I knew! I am quiet into gigs so I figured why not do a charity one. I am a big supporter of local Irish talent and I think it's something that people need to give more credit for. The bands that I have lined up are extremely talented and I am looking forward to getting the bands hopefully some good exposure to new crowds and hopefully new fans considering they are all performing on the night for free. The charity band night is being held on Friday 10th of September in the The Village, Wexford St, Dublin 2 with the first band up at 7.30pm. The night will feature performances from ZombieCops, Milk, Youth Mass and Bipolar Empire headlining the event. Tickets cost €10 at the door or they can be bought before the event from myself. There will also be a raffle during the gig and so far there is some brillant prizes such as restaurant vouchers for Town bar and Grill, Fallon and Byrne, Diep Le Shaker, sidned leinster jersey by Johnny Sexton (sponsored by Susan Cosgrove, Hopkins & Co Solicitors), VIP table for Burlesque Club and Social, Vouchers from Honey Trap Boudoir, Soho Boutique Voucher, Get your make up done free by a professional make up artist, Drink hampers and much much more. My aim is to hopefully raise €3,000, it's a high enough target but I am really hoping that I reach it. I have set up a donation page on www.mycharity.ie, for anyone who is unable to attend the event or simply just wants to make a donation to help me reach my target can do so on http://www.mycharity.ie/event/ryhthm_is_a_dancer_for_cancer. All funds donated on this page go directly to the Irish Cancer Society. If anyone wishes to purchase some pre tickets they can contact me on 086 075 1507. All money donated will help to fund, cancer information service, Patient care & support, nursing services, prevention and education and cancer research. The Village, 26 Wexford St, D2. DUBLIN ROCKS! FestivalVON SHAKES / SOUNDPROOF / HOOLIGAN VON SHAKES Following the release of their debut single ‘The Routine' earlier this year, Von Shakes released their debut album also titled ‘The Routine' in April, ad followed that with a second single ‘Template' in June. A Rock ‘n' Roll four piece from Dublin formed in 2007, the band have finally brought the sound that has enthralled audiences in Ireland, England, Germany and even Russia to the recording studio. With the production help of Conor Brady (The Blades, The Revanants) and Phil Hayes (Delorentos, Bell X1), Von Shakes have translated their electrifying live sound onto record, capturing everything that has contributed to their critical acclaim in the past year. The album ‘The Routine' contains 11 tracks of classic rock for a new decade. This is a collection of modern anthems with no limitations in terms of its appeal to music lovers everywhere. Gritty vocals, clean instrumentals and infectious choruses – ‘The Routine' is evidence of the bands' musical aptitude. Regularly playing live this past year has served to cement Von Shakes as one of the tightest bands in Dublin and their recent performance at The Phantom First Friday, captured on HD (now on youtube below) is evidence of a band on the verge of making a big waves in the rock scene. SOUNDPROOF Soundproof are a high energy melodic rock band from north Dublin. Formed in 2006 by 3 brothers, Ste, Neilo and Puss, they began writing creative melodies full of harmonies and catchy choruses in their 'soundproof' shed. In among the melodies lead guitarist Stevo delivers passionate Doors/Lizzy inspired riffs and solos. Ronan Power later filled the role as bassist and the ensemble was complete. In autumn 2009, Soundproof recorded, their debut EP entitled 'Shoot Me'. This was followed in May 2010 with the release of their debut single 'Only by the Night' which peaked at number 44 in the Irish charts and number 2 in the Downloadmusic.ie charts. Both gigs were performed to a packed Village venue and received many positive reviews from Hot Press, Music Review unsigned and Heineken Music who agreed that 'Puss incorporates 'all the swagger of an established front man' and the 'supreme energy displayed by the band has really grasped the audience in their live sets. ' Having gigged throughout the Summer in various hotspots including 'No Place like Dome festival' and 'LCFest' and done various radio interviews on stations such as Fm 104, WLR Fm, Near Fm and Dublin city Fm, the band are ready to take it up another notch. M.G.B is an indie/alternative rock band, who started writing and performing their own material in 2007. Their success thus far has been exceptional and 2009 has proven to be the start for M.G.B, who have become extremely popular in the music industry with a huge fan base that continues to thrive. They have supported such bands as Republic of Loose, award winning CODES and New York band MRNORTH at venues across the country. YANN TIERSEN
Aiken Promotions are proud to present… YANN TIERSEN+ Guests Yann Tiersen is, by far, one of the best known French artists of his generation and the most world- renowned for his writing skills. He is back in Dublin to perform live @ The Village this October 23rd. Tickets are €27 on sale now through Ticketmaster and other usual outlets nationwide. Booking Line: 0818 719 300. While his reputation as a musician was first established thanks to his early studio albums, “La valse des monstres” (Monsters' waltz), “Rue des cascades” (Cascade street) and “Le Phare” (The lighthouse), that served as an introduction for the mainstream audience to his music writing wisdom, it was his work on the score for the movie “Amélie Poulain ”(”Amelie”) that earned him widespread recognition, where, thanks to great neoclassical vision, he would play around with pop and folk sounds, stripped from common cliches. But Yann Tiersen made his biggest impression on spectators first and foremost through his live performances, playing alone or with his band, by delivering an emotionally charged and freely inspired conception of his music to the audience. This libertarian attitude greatly influenced the writing of albums to follow, alternating classical film scores (“Good Bye Lenine”, “Tabarly”) with more “pop” music for his studio albums (“L'Absente”, “Les Retrouvailles”) followed by prestigious guest appearances honouring his unique style of composing (Stuart Staples, Jane Birkin, Dominique A, Lisa Germano, Neil Hanon and more). On the strength of these successful achievements on record and on stage, Yann always strived to create his own trademark sound, never dwelling on the way that the mainstream audience labels him. By experimenting endlessly with various new musical directions and collaborations (Shannon Wright, This Immortal Coil, Orka..) he reminds those who care to listen that his musical boundaries go as far as he choses. Yann will have been carrying this message to whatever remote area his worldwide tours will have taken him to, playing his own repertoire under an infinitely fresh and renewed musical light, challenging his own codes. His new album ”Dust Lane”, brilliantly proves the extent of his ambition once again, blasting all ideas of hermetic musical boundaries; borrowing this time from Rock music sounds, and allowing his musical writing skills to blossom into a superb and strong creation, soon to be shared with his followers on stage.
